arugula


Arugula is part of the Brassica family of cruciferous vegetables, along with broccoli, cabbage, kale, and chard.

Why is it good for my body? Arugula provides vital nutrients including vitamin K, vitamin A, beta-carotene, and folate. It is also an anti-inflammatory.
Where does it come from? Arugula was thought to be an aphrodisiac by the ancient Egyptians and Romans, perhaps because it helps improve circulation.
What season is it fresh? Arugula is harvested in the spring. You can find it fresh at farmers markets in spring and early summer and year-round in grocery stores.
How do I store and handle it? Arugula is a delicate green and should be eaten within a few days of purchase. Keep the leaves dry and loosly wrapped in a damp paper towel for storage in the refrigerator.
